Big Girl Pants Moment: When I Had to Choose Walk Away or Show Up|Military Suicide, Grief Sales, Mortgage Servicer Gaps & Showing Up Fully
Hey friend đź‘‹
Let’s talk about something heavy today…
Because here’s the truth…
Real estate isn’t always exciting closings and happy moving days.
Sometimes?
People call us in the worst moments of their lives.
🏡 Here's the truth:
This transaction came after a military spouse lost her husband to suicide.
Three little girls.
A house full of memories.
And a woman trying to figure out how to survive the unimaginable.
She called me because she needed help selling the home…
And honestly?
Part of me wanted to run from it.
đźš© The real challenge?
Not the house.
The weight of it all.
Walking into the property
Coordinating repairs
Helping clean up what was left behind
And trying to protect this family from carrying even more than they already were.
đź’ˇ What this means for you:
Sometimes our role has very little to do with real estate.
Sometimes it’s:
→ Being the buffer
→ Carrying burdens quietly
→ Helping someone move forward when they can’t think clearly themselves
That matters more than any commission check ever will.
💰Now let’s talk about the part that shocked me most…
The mortgage company wouldn’t talk to her.
Even with:
→ A death certificate
→ A marriage certificate
→ Proof of everything
They still wouldn’t help her access information to make payments on the home.
And honestly?
That should never happen.
📊 One of the most practical takeaways from this episode:
Please make sure your spouse or trusted person has access to:
→ Mortgage information
→ Utility accounts
→ Passwords/logins
→ Important documents
Because tragedy doesn’t always come with preparation time.
⚖️ A better way to frame your role:
We do not get to choose to only help people in the easy moments.
Sometimes serving well means showing up when things are heartbreaking.
🎯 Real talk:
This episode is a reminder to:
→ Check on your people
→ Lead with kindness
→ And remember that everyone is carrying something you may not see
Especially in military communities.
